It’s been awhile since I’ve had time to really sit down and indulge myself in a good book from cover to end. You know the feeling, when you get so enthralled with a book that it’s hard to put down? The kind of book you get so caught up in that you’ll even take it to the bathroom and to bed to read? Well I think it’s finally time to make time for some intellectual stimulation, for example, “Domestic Violets” by Matthew Norman.
I was excited when local writer, Matthew Norman, asked me to do his headshot for the bio section of his upcoming book! Matthew Norman works as a copywriter in Baltimore, MD. Born in Nebraska in 1977, he earned an MFA in Fiction Writing from George Mason University. Domestic Violets is his first novel.
Set at the beginning of the financial crisis, Domestic Violets is a comedy about Tom Violet, a young father and husband whose life begins to spin off course when he learns that his world-famous father has just won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
Publisher: Harper Collins.
Official Pub Date: September 1, 2011.
Knowing Matt’s sense of humor, I have no doubt that this book will be a great comedic read. I’m looking forward to the novel and hope he enjoys the selects from the shoot!

I was so excited to be able to photograph and attend my first doljanchi this weekend. Doljanchi (or Dol) is a Korean tradition that celebrates the birthday of a one-year-old baby. This ceremony blesses the child with a prosperous future and has taken on great significance in Korea. The birthday babies wear a hanbok and a traditional hat: a jobawi or or gulle for baby girls and a bokgeon or hogeon for baby boys. (Wikipedia).
Baby Vivienne turned one this year! She is part Korean and the parents wanted to celebrate her heritage through a traditional Korean 1st Birthday celebration. I met Baby Vivienne’s parents via referral from the K Family. I am so fortunate to have been able to work with such awesome clients!

Three generations – Baby Vivienne with her Grandma and mom.
The celebration took place at the parents beautiful historic home in Baltimore.
The highlight of the dol is a ritual where the child is placed in front of a table of foods and objects such as string, books, brushes, ink and money. The child is then urged to pick up an object from the table. It is believed the one selected will foretell the child’s future. For example, if the child picks up a brush or book, he is destined to be a scholar. If he picks up money or rice, he will be wealthy; cakes or other food, a government official; a sword or bow, a military commander. (Wikipedia)
Family and friends gather around and anxiously await what object Baby Vivienne will choose.

There was a playroom setup for the little ones upstairs. It came equipped with moon bounce and plenty of arts & crafts to keep the kids busy.
